George Noxon attended the Toronto Model School and Ridley College before entering UTS. After graduating, he studied briefly in Europe before obtaining a commission in the Royal Grenadiers. He became the youngest officer to be stationed at the Kapuskasing Internment Camp, where he was secretary of the mess and accountant of the canteen. On 1 October 1915, Noxon and his fellow officer Lieutenant J.W. Price were exploring the badly swollen Kapuskasing River in a canoe when they were caught in swift water and overturned. Price managed to cling on to a rock, but Noxon was swept away and his body was never recovered. He is commemorated in the Book of Remembrance in the Peace Tower and on a plaque in the Anglican Church of the Redeemer at Avenue Road and Bloor Street. “For God, for Truth, for Liberty.”
